About Sheriff Scott Jackson

Sheriff Scott Jackson was appointed on July 1, 2013, to fulfill retired Sheriff Diana Simpson’s term of office. Initially hired by the Benton County Sheriff’s Office in 1995 as a part-time on-call Corrections Deputy, within a few months he was hired full time and has served the Benton County community ever since. He holds dual certification in Corrections and Police through the Oregon Department of Public Safety Standards and Training and has held multiple positions within the Sheriff’s Office including Deputy, Corporal, Sergeant, Training/Policy Sergeant and Lieutenant (Jail Commander). He was appointed by retired Sheriff Simpson to serve as Undersheriff in 2008 overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Jackson is a military veteran having joined the U.S. Army in 1983. He served in the active duty Army and Oregon Army National Guard. Stationed in Germany he was a member of the prestigious 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment “Blackhorse.” Leaving active duty in 1991, he continued to serve the nation through the Army Reserve and Oregon National Guard, retiring in 2008. His career in criminal justice started when he returned from serving overseas and took a position with the Arizona Department of Corrections. While traveling through Oregon on vacation he stopped in Corvallis during a snowstorm and almost immediately knew this was where he wanted to live. He took his picture in front of the Sheriff’s Office sign, returned to Arizona and submitted a 30-day notice of his intent to resign. He moved to Corvallis and immediately applied with the Sheriff’s Office. Sheriff Jackson has a bachelor’s degree from Western Baptist College and is nearing completion of a graduate degree in Criminal Justice Administration from Western Oregon University. His professional studies include attending the FBI National Academy, Oregon Executive Institute, the Pacific Program, Oregon State Sheriff’s Association Command College, Northwest Leadership Seminars, Leadership Corvallis as well as multiple courses through the American Correctional Association and the National Institute of Corrections. Jackson serves the Benton County community both as Sheriff and through his involvement with local nonprofit endeavors. He is the Board President of the Boys and Girls Club of Corvallis, President-Elect of Leadership Corvallis, Chair-Elect for Willamette Criminal Justice Council, past chair and current board member of The Sheriff’s Foundation, a member of Rotary, a member of Corvallis Elks, and actively supports endeavors aimed at improving the lives of children.
