Wheeler County

Jeremiah was born and raised in a rural area outside Hinckley, Minnesota in a farming community. He became a self-employed farrier and at 16 years old spent the next 8 years shoeing horses, riding colts, farming and raising cattle. Jeremiah married his wife, Tara, in 1999, and shortly thereafter was bitten by the cowboy bug. He and his family packed up and moved out west, starting in Montana, back to Minnesota, and after several moves over several years, finally settled in Wheeler County, Oregon in 2008. Jeremiah started as a ranch hand in Spray but soon gained the manager’s position for which he held for ten years.

While managing the ranch in Spray, Jeremiah volunteered as a firefighter for two fire departments, eventually becoming the Fire Chief for Spray Volunteer Fire Department and the Wheeler County Fire Defense Board Chief. Jeremiah became an EMR in 2018 and an EMT in 2019, enabling him to assist all three of the local ambulance agencies in Wheeler County if needed.

Jeremiah volunteers at the local church and enjoys serving his community in any way he can. He still enjoys all things agriculture and can be found working cows and horses with his family and farming on his few days off.

Jeremiah was sworn in as a Wheeler County Sheriff’s Deputy in September of 2018 and promoted to Sergeant and Patrol Supervisor in July of 2022. Jeremiah was elected Sheriff of Wheeler County in the fall of 2024 and sworn in as Sheriff on January 6th, 2025.
