Sheriff Travis Johnson

Travis Johnson was appointed by the Malheur County Court and was sworn in as Sheriff on April 4, 2023. He has had an interesting road to his career in law enforcement.

Travis was born into a farm & ranch family in a small town in Eastern Oregon. He grew up irrigating, riding horses on the range, and was a three-sport athlete in high school.

Johnson received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Weber State University in Automotive Technologies. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Detroit, Michigan and Seattle, Washington.

He married his college sweetheart while in Detroit and after having their first child, decided corporate life wasn’t for him. They moved back to work on the family farm and grow their family to six.

The family business was crowded so he began a career with MCSO in 2009. He was promoted from a Deputy to Undersheriff in 2012. Johnson was awarded the OSSA President’s Award in 2016 for holding down the office during the National Wildlife Refuge takeover.

Travis looks forward to continuing his career in Malheur County as Sheriff.
