Sheriff Shane Mitchell

Sheriff Shane L. Mitchell started his career with the Klamath County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) in June 2000 as a Reserve Deputy, hired as a Patrol Deputy August 2001, promoted to Sergeant March 2019 and served as the Klamath County College (KCC) School Resource Officer (SRO), supervised three SRO Deputies and was liaison for the Klamath County School District, he held this position until he took office in January 2025.

Sheriff Mitchell has over 2500 hours of state certified training and holds an Advanced Supervisory Certification through the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training (DPSST). He was instrumental to introduce the DPSST Southwestern Oregon Advanced Law Enforcement Regional Training Coordinator to Klamath Falls who is housed at the Klamath County Sheriff’s Substation at KCC. This collaboration provides training opportunities for both local officers and agencies across the state, has saved Klamath County thousands of dollars in travel cost for out of area training and has generated state funds for KCC.

During his time with Klamath County Sheriff’s Office, Sheriff Mitchell was an instructor for Firearms, Defensive Tactics, Multiple Interactive Learning Objectives and Pursuit Intervention Technique, the coordinator for Department Training and the Reserve Deputy program, a Field Training Officer, Department Range Master, Special Response Team Leader/Sniper, he continues to assist in these areas as needed.  

Sheriff Mitchell has dedicated his entire law enforcement career of 25+ years to the citizens of Klamath County. He was born and raised in Klamath Falls, an enrolled member of the Klamath Tribes, graduated from Henley High School and attended Oregon Institute of Technology. Shane and his wife, Kaci, raised their two daughters in Klamath County and now enjoy watching their three grandchildren participate in activities throughout the Basin. As Sheriff, he is committed to providing exceptional law enforcement services.
