OREGON SHERIFF Magazine News

Summer, 2010 -- Congratulations to Deputy Josh Wilson, the Drug Recognition Expert of the Year, and to our staff on receiving the DUII Enforcement Agency of 2009! The DUII Multi-Disciplinary Task Force awards for sheriff's offices recognize not only 1,219 DUII arrests by deputies, but also aggressive traffic enforcement, public education programs, and excellent training.

Patrol received a technology assist when our Law Enforcement Technology Team implemented a new web application that gives deputies real-time access to warrant information from their patrol cars. Deputies can view mug shots of the person to be served, and enter notes regarding warrant attempts, suspect information, address cautions and more. They can also view warrants by patrol district or other criteria. The pass along from one shift to the next is accomplished instantly, and updated data is available real-time to records staff in the office. Nice work!

Our Project Lifesaver Program provides electronic bracelets to people who suffer from Alzheimer's, autism, or other disabilities that cause them to wander from safety. When a person is reported missing, deputies respond with equipment that tracks each bracelet's special frequency. In April, an 18-year-old developmentally disabled boy left home on his bike and was returned safely home within minutes!
