OREGON SHERIFF Magazine News

Summer, 2010 -- The Tillamook County Sheriff's Office assisted the Oregon State Police with a vandalism to the historic Cape Meares Lighthouse. In mid-January, two Tillamook men shot out a lens of the Lighthouse, which was made in the late 1800's, as well as numerous windows. A month long investigation led to the arrest of two adult men from the Tillamook area.

Also in January, the Sheriff's Office investigated a homicide in the Nehalem area. Investigators determined that a 48 year old Nehalem man, shot his close friend in a trailer next to the primary residence. The suspect left the scene but later went to a local business and called 9-1-1 to turn himself in. The suspect was arrested and charged with aggravated murder.

The Tillamook County Sheriff's Office also saw the retirement of two, long time employees. Deputy Don Taylor, a Forest Deputy and Search and Rescue Coordinator, as well as Deputy Roscoe Fertig, a Parole and Probation Deputy, retired after many years of service to the Tillamook County Sheriff's Office. We wish them both the best in their retirements.
