Marion County Sheriff Jason Myers

Jason MyersThe Sheriff of the Year for 2012 is from a larger Sheriff’s Office for the State of Oregon, Marion County, and has been awarded to Sheriff Jason Myers. Since he became sheriff, he has taken an immediate and active role in all aspects of the OSSA leadership. He was described by one of his employees that quoted a scripture that reads, “Two people are better off than one, for they can help each other succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble.” They said this scripture says really everything you need to know about Sheriff Myers and how he helps everyone he comes into contact with, and makes sure they are not alone. He embodies this mantra in everything he does. He has optimism, humility, he engages everyone in the conversation so that solid decisions based upon solid information can be made and carried out.

He represents the sheriffs and police chiefs, and he has had to walk a difficult tight rope between ensuring that all 36 sheriffs are being heard as to their opinions on the mission of this commission, while also working to look for solutions for the state and the criminal justice programs. His role has helped get key legislation passed.

While he entered as a sheriff under some tough circumstances, Sheriff Myers has seen and led dramatic changes in the office. He has helped his staff reach new heights. Sheriff Myers consistently sets the example so that his staff will want to do their best, he is there to help everyone succeed, again if one stumbles he is there to help them up, and he is there to offer his help in any situation. The ability Sheriff Myers uses to handle all of this without malice and harness has been impressive and it reflects on his integrity and sensitivity.

Sheriff Myers brings credit to his office, himself and the Oregon State Sheriffs’ Association representing all 36 sheriffs. We have also been told that some of you know him by his nickname, “MR HOLLYWOOD”.

Congratulations Sheriff Jason Myers for a job well done!
