Summer, 2010 -- The May primary election is over! I have been the Acting Sheriff since January, and was running against two opponents in the May primary, and when all was said and done, I won the primary with 80 percent of the vote.
Our five-year jail operating levy will expire in June 2011. We're putting together a citizen committee to assist in making decisions. We currently plan to put the next levy requests on the November ballot, so a lot of work must be done between now and then.
On May 8, 2010, the Sheriff's Office hosted their annual awards banquet. Dispatcher Amy Van Donk received the "Employee of the Year" award for her hard work and dedication in the 911 center. She has taken on additional duties above her regular duties, such as updating the dispatch procedures manual and working with GeoSolve (a mapping and addressing company), Jefferson County GIS and Community Development to create maps and update the Master Street Addressing Guide.
Reserve Deputy of the Year was awarded to Brad Pahl for his over 1800 hours of volunteer work assisting patrol deputies with shift coverage and civil service.
Employees in each division choose one of their peers to receive an Impact Award, which is given to the person whom they feel have good work ethics, performs their duties efficiently, is the most friendly and works the best with other teammates. The award was given to Deputy Andy Pointer -- Corrections, Deputy David Carnes -- Patrol, and Dispatcher Amy Van Donk -- Communications.
