Glenn E. Palmer was appointed Sheriff of Grant County in the year 2000 due to the death of Sheriff Fred Reusser who passed away seven days before the general election. He was then elected and began his elective term in January of 2001.
Sheriff Palmer began his career in law enforcement as a part-time corrections deputy in 1985. At this same time he was also a reserve patrolman for the City of John Day. In 1986 he served as a full time correctional officer in the Grant County jail. He transfered to a full time patrol deputy position in 1988. Sheriff Palmer attended the Oregon State Sheriff's Association Deputy Sheriff's Academy class #1 in Clatsop County.
In 1989 Palmer resigned as a Deputy Sheriff and went to work as a Patrolman for the City of John Day. During his tenure, Palmer attained the rank of Senior Patrolman. Palmer was a narcotics canine handler for two years. While employed with the City of John Day Palmer was awarded two Non-Criminal Life Saving Awards.
Upon being elected Sheriff of Grant County, Palmer has been active in pursuing his Executive Certificate through the Department of Public Safety, Standards and Training. Palmer has documented nearly 2,000 hours of training with that agency by attending various law enforcement training.
Sheriff Palmer is active in his communities and is a 20 year member of the John Day Volunteer Fire Department where in 1997 he was awarded the Oregon Volunteer Firefighter of the Year Award. Palmer is also a member of the American Legion.
Palmer has been married to his wife of 18 years, RoseAnn, have three children.

Summer, 2010 -- Deputy Scott Moore has recently graduated from the basic police class at DPSST. Welcome back Deputy Moore.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office is in the process of obtaining a digital finger print scan device. The $12,000 piece of equipment was obtained from proceeds that were donated toward the equipment purchase. No tax dollars were used in this endeavor.
The Grant County Sheriff's Office assisted the Wheeler County Sheriff in locating a suspect who fled Wheeler County after an alleged kidnap and assault stemming from a domestic dispute. The suspect was stopped just outside of John Day where he was taken into custody on the Wheeler County case. Subsequent investigation showed that the suspect is a convicted felon and in possession of several rifles. A check with NCIC showed warrants out of Hopkins County, Texas for Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, UU MV and Theft. A stolen rifle was recovered from the vehicle.
