Summer, 2010 -- The U.S. Marshals Service in Dumfries, Virginia, arrested Gabriel Morris, a Coos County murder suspect. Gabriel Morris was wanted on charges of two counts of Aggravated Murder following the discovery of two victims in Bandon, Oregon, on February 11, 2010. Gabriel Morris is now in the custody of Coos County jail awaiting trial.

The Board of Commissioners approved funding for the Sheriff's Office to purchase eleven (11) new patrol vehicles and one (1) jail van. These vehicles are now serving the community and equipped with new Mobile Data Computers, allowing patrol deputies to be more efficient in dealing with criminal matters. We are also in the process of remodeling the Control Room in the jail. We will be adding new color cameras and monitors at an adjusted height making them user friendly.

In 2007, we cut half of our jail beds due to financial hardship. This year we are asking the Board of Commissioners and Budget Committee for five additional deputies to open forty-nine more jail beds. This will enable us to better serve the community by keeping criminals off the streets longer and reducing crime.
