Winter, 2009 -- The five-year old Wilberger ordeal came to an end for the family of 19-year-old Brigham Young University student Brooke Wilberger.

An agreement with Joel Courtney ended the case. On Sept. 18, Courtney admitted to murder, telling authorities where to locate Wilberger's remains. In exchange, the death penalty was removed as consideration and Courtney will spend the rest of his life in prison, with no possibility of release. Wilberger's body was found in the Coast Range west of Corvallis.

Virtually all Benton County Sheriff's Office members (detectives, search and rescue, and corrections) played some part in the investigation and conviction.
